JMW Secures £1.3m Settlement for Motorcyclist with Complex Polytrauma Injuries

JMW’s personal injury solicitors secured a £1.3 million settlement for a motorcyclist who sustained life-threatening and life-altering injuries in a road traffic accident. We obtained early interim funding, coordinated extensive expert evidence and ensured that the final settlement reflected his long-term medical and rehabilitation needs.

The Case

Our client sustained complex polytrauma injuries in a motorcycle versus car collision. His injuries were extensive and included limb-threatening leg fractures, pelvic and spinal fractures, fractures to the fingers on both hands, shoulder and elbow injuries, internal liver injury, urological damage and psychological consequences.

The impact of the motorcycle accident was immediate and severe. He required urgent medical treatment and faced a prolonged period of recovery. Prior to the accident, he had enjoyed an active, outdoor lifestyle. The injuries significantly restricted his mobility and independence.

How Did JMW Help?

JMW moved quickly to secure interim funding to support our client’s recovery. We engaged a clinical case manager who established a multidisciplinary team to coordinate his rehabilitation.

Interim funding enabled our client to access physiotherapy and structured rehabilitation. He also trialled alternative pain management therapies and adapted activities to replace his pre-accident outdoor pursuits. These steps were designed to maximise his independence and long-term quality of life.

To properly evidence the extent of his injuries and future needs, we instructed a wide range of medical experts, including specialists in orthopaedics, urology, psychiatry, plastic surgery, general surgery, pain management, neurology, neuropsychology and audio-vestibular medicine. We also obtained non-medical expert evidence from care and occupational therapy specialists, an orthotics expert and an accommodation expert.

This comprehensive approach ensured that all aspects of our client’s condition were addressed, including anticipated deterioration as he aged. We prepared the case thoroughly and engaged in negotiations at a joint settlement meeting.

The Outcome

We secured a £1.3 million settlement that provides for our client’s ongoing medical treatment, rehabilitation and care needs. The settlement also enabled him to obtain suitable alternative accommodation with level access and to pay for the support he will require in the future.

JMW’s private client team assisted with the establishment of a personal injury trust to protect the compensation and ensure it is managed appropriately.

By combining early rehabilitation support with detailed expert evidence and careful negotiation, we achieved a resolution that reflects both the seriousness of the injuries and our client’s long-term needs.
